Part 3: A Guide to GMing

RECRUITING PLAYERS

How you recruit players is largely up to your parent group, if you have one, but a few guidelines are largely universal:

  • If you have a signature, or other tag in your posts, it is often okay to politely and attractively advertise your game here.

  • You have be allowed to write a post about it in a designated area.

  • Don't steal members from other games. While players may often participate in more than one game, don't try to make them abandon someone else's game for yours.

  • Don't harass people with requests to play your game. You set a bad precedent if you force people into joining, and it's just plain rude.

  • Include links in approved promotions! Don't make it hard for your players to find the game.

  • ALWAYS ASK FIRST! If in doubt, please ask. You may not have many opportunities to advertise your game, but it's better to wait patiently for players than to violate any rules. Consider extending your search for players outside of your group, but be wary of those who aren't familiar with the rules you're used to. The lack of advertising opportunities is partly why your Introductory Page must be perfect.

If you are allowed to make a post of sorts, however, make it an abbreviated version (or the full version) of your Plot Information. Thus, it would be:

It is a period of turmoil in the galaxy. The fall of the Jedi and the Sith have left both sides licking their wounds in an unforgiving world primed to annihilate any semblance of the recently-fallen Empire. Alliances are forged and enemies battle without a clear victor. But a piece of a long-forgotten map has been found, and the hunt has begun for a holocron with unimaginable knowledge and power for those who find it first.

Are you cunning enough to find it? Are you strong enough to wield it?

Begin your journey.

Coup de Main -- The Hunt.

Remember to include a link, such as in "Begin your journey."  Because the rules around promoting differ so greatly, there's not much more I can tell you. Again, just ask the people in charge or a knowledgeable member.
